The Chinese automotive group BYD intends to invest hundreds of millions of dollars of its own funds to build an ultra-fast charging network for electric cars in Romania. The announcement was made in Bucharest by the company's executive vice president, Stella Li, as reported by the Romanian news portal HotNews. However, the executive avoided providing precise details regarding the exact total amount or the expected implementation timeline.

The program aims to introduce in the country the technology called Flash Charging, presented in March 2025. Each station entails an estimated cost between four hundred thousand and five hundred thousand dollars, with planning focused primarily on highways and high-traffic locations. The infrastructure allows charges from ten to seventy percent in five minutes on compatible models, already being tested in Norway and Switzerland.

The manufacturer's plans, however, exclude the opening of new industrial plants on Romanian territory. Mass production at the Szeged plant, located in neighboring Hungary, will start in the month of November. For future production sites on the European continent, the company is evaluating options in the western area, identifying energy costs and domestic market size as the main criteria for the final choice of candidate countries.

On the local commercial front, the brand currently has thirty-eight sales points in Romania, where it ranked fourth in new car registrations in the last month, reaching over four thousand units in the first nine months of the year. The company, which manufactured approximately four and a half million motor vehicles last year, is increasing the share intended for exports to foreign markets.
