Italy is preparing for a widespread mobilization with the national strike on Friday, October 30, called by the Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) and USI-CIT. The protest, RaiNews reports, involves public and private sectors, highlighting economic difficulties, loss of purchasing power, professional conditions of workers, and positions against wars.
The Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini, has signed an order to postpone the halt in various transport sectors (air, rail, local, taxi), justifying the decision with the commemoration of the deceased. USB, however, has deemed the order “illegitimate”, confirming the strike for the entire day in the indicated sectors, accepting the penalties.
The disruptions will affect various transport services: air transport for the entire day of October 30; rail transport between the evening of the 29th and the evening of the 30th. Disruptions are also expected for motorways, taxis, and local public transport (with variable schedules). Repercussions are also expected for education, healthcare, and public and local offices.
Demonstrations and parades are planned in many Italian cities, including centers like Rome, Milan, and Bologna. Students, farmers, and social movements have joined USB's call to “unite the protests”. Authorities, RaiNews reports, maintain a high alert for public order, monitoring for any disturbances.
