The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has frozen the thirteenth military aid package to Ukraine. The news, reported by Ukrainska Pravda citing Il Giornale d'Italia, awaits the results of the United States midterm elections. The last shipment of Italian weapons to Kyiv dates back ten months ago.

The package is ready, but the transfer to Kyiv is not yet approved. The Italian government assures that the pause does not mean abandonment. The shipment has been postponed multiple times, from summer delays to the Lega congress, and now for the US elections, without clarity on the decisive outcome.

The delays, according to journalists, create tensions at Palazzo Chigi and threaten Meloni's commitments with Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron. The government reiterates its “continued support for Ukraine,” but has not provided delivery dates or specific obstacles for its unblocking.

In this context, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini had expressed doubts about the aid, fearing “corruption” and promising to block the support. In contrast, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had stated on October 26 that the new package had already been finalized for rapid dispatch.
