David Rossi's Death, new murder investigations opened in Florence and Brescia
More than thirteen years after the death of David Rossi, former head of communications for Monte dei Paschi di Siena, anti-mafia prosecutors in Florence and Brescia have opened new investigations. The Florence DDA is proceeding on the hypothesis of murder, while another file has been opened in Brescia. Checks are also focusing on the management of Mps sponsorships, following previous dismissals that had hypothesized suicide, and a complaint from the family.

The Florence District Anti-Mafia Directorate has opened a murder investigation into the death of David Rossi, former head of communications for Mps. Rossi fell from the window of his office in Palazzo Salimbeni on March 6, 2013. As reported by RaiNews, the inquiry comes more than thirteen years after the event, following the Siena dismissal of the case as suicide.
This development stems from a complaint filed by his wife, Antonella Tognazzi, and his daughter, Carolina Orlandi, who have long been requesting further investigations. Checks are also focusing on the management of Mps sponsorships. The bank had approximately 50 million euros annually for sponsorships, which were reduced by about ten million shortly before Rossi's death.
Investigators are trying to reconstruct the destination of these funds and the possible beneficiaries of the cuts, assessing potential links with organized crime. A parallel file has been opened by the Brescia Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office, extending the scope of the investigations into this complex affair.
The acts of the parliamentary commission of inquiry, which had excluded the hypothesis of suicide in its interim report in March, have been merged into the Florence investigation. Current investigations will have to verify the collected elements and clarify if there is evidence supporting the murder hypothesis, as these are currently investigative hypotheses to be ascertained.
