The authorities of Ghana have announced that they have reached a formal agreement with the Russian presidency to prohibit the recruitment of their citizens in the ongoing conflict on Ukrainian territory. As reported by the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, the decision would prevent any form of military engagement, including voluntary enlistment and irregular recruitment channels.
The institutional statement was issued by the Ghanaian Foreign Minister on the sidelines of bilateral talks organized during the Russia-Africa summit. The government representative specified that the measure agreed upon with Russian representatives aims to protect the domestic civilian population from involvement in warfare abroad.
The diplomatic framework described includes further strategic cooperation initiatives between the two nations involved. In particular, collaboration on the construction of a two-thousand-megawatt nuclear power plant was reported, along with defense agreements, aid for the Ghanaian agricultural sector, and academic scholarships.
Up to this point, however, Moscow's institutions have not released any official confirmation regarding the existence or the specific details of the announced pact. Ukrainska Pravda also recalled estimates regarding the monthly deployment of volunteers and foreign fighters in the armed forces engaged in the military operations of the Russian Federation.
