Sergiu Klainerman, a renowned Romanian mathematician and professor at Princeton University, a MacArthur Fellow, shared his analyses in an interview published today by HotNews. After having experienced communist repression in Romania and observed the Western academic environment, Klainerman today declares himself a "Trumpist", criticizing the perceived leftist ideological dominance in universities.
Professor Klainerman evaluates Donald Trump based on his actions, rather than his rhetoric. He cites military support for Ukraine and effective immigration management in the United States as strengths, in contrast to the European approach. He also appreciates the initiatives in Venezuela and against Iran, considered a global danger, while dissenting from tariff policies he judges excessive.
According to Klainerman, Europe is "down" due to severe economic problems, uncontrolled immigration, the growth of the radical right, and dependence on China. He maintains that only the United States is attempting to implement significant changes. He recognizes Romania's strategic position, but highlights its internal instability and widespread corruption as obstacles.
Regarding Artificial Intelligence, Klainerman does not fear its autonomous destruction of the world, but warns about human misuse. He considers it an extraordinary tool for research and systematization, capable of solving complex problems. He notes that this technological revolution is affecting the intellectual elite for the first first time, rather than manual labor.
