The United States Department of State has authorized a possible Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine for the acquisition of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles, known as PAC-3. The overall operation has an estimated value of $2.1 billion and includes the delivery of five hundred interceptors requested by the government in Kyiv to strengthen its airspace protection capabilities.
As reported by the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, the supply will also include logistical and IT support components, including classified and unclassified spare parts for PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missiles. The proposed plan aims to support the security of a partner considered crucial for European stability, increasing the country's operational responses to ongoing air and missile threats.
The financial agreement does not involve the use of US public funds. The program will be entirely covered by donations from Canada, Germany, and Norway through the multinational initiative known as JUMPSTART, together with Ukrainian national resources disbursed via the European Union support loan mechanism. The economic structure ensures the procurement of the materials without direct burdens on Washington's budget.
The green light comes after recent institutional statements regarding the procurement pace of interceptors. Ukrainian authorities had in fact reported reduced monthly supply averages during 2026 and urged European partner countries to evaluate temporary transfers of part of their own defense arsenals to meet field needs while awaiting new arrivals.
