The hearing for Ilir Beqaj, concerning the “Sterilization file”, has been postponed in Albania. Despite the Administrative Court of Appeal having temporarily suspended the boycott of the GJKKO (Special Court) by the National Chamber of Advocates, the lawyers did not appear. Their absence is motivated by the Chamber's wait for the Appeal ruling, as reported by RTSH.

The Appeal decision, taken the previous day, accepted the request of the Anti-Corruption Lawyers Association, which opposed the blockade. The intent was to restart judicial proceedings. The provisional suspension of the boycott will remain in effect until the examination on the merits, which will establish the legitimacy of the protest.

The boycott, ongoing for almost two months, stemmed from a GJKKO regulation that prohibits the use of mobile phones in the courtroom. This has caused the postponement of dozens of sessions. Ilir Beqaj, present at the hearing, reported that his defense attorneys are awaiting the official position of the National Chamber of Advocates.

The Court deemed the absence of the defense attorneys “illegal” but nevertheless postponed Beqaj's hearing to November 10, 11:30 AM. The persistence of the protest highlights a complex dynamic between the legal profession and Albanian judicial institutions, despite the judicial intervention.
