A serious episode of violence occurred outside a public establishment in Cantù, in the Como area. The victim of the attack is Aldo Marra, a 55-year-old carpenter, who was struck in the abdomen and a shoulder by several blows inflicted with an edged weapon. The man was rushed to the hospital facility, where he unfortunately arrived already in cardiac arrest, rendering rescue efforts futile.

As reported by the news outlet RaiNews, the carabinieri tracked down and detained the alleged perpetrator of the attack, identified as Cristian Maffia, a 33-year-old with a criminal record related to drug trafficking and crimes against the person. The suspect made a full confession before the investigators tasked with reconstructing the exact sequence of events.

During questioning, the detained young man claimed to have left his home carrying the blade with him because he feared a possible confrontation with an individual to whom he had to settle a 200-euro debt, whom he refused to name. Subsequently, the violent altercation with the victim allegedly took place near the venue.

The man also declared to investigators that the dispute allegedly arose from alleged mockery directed at him due to his Calabrian accent. Stating that he had become intimidated by the 55-year-old's build, he allegedly reacted by striking him repeatedly. The carabinieri are now continuing their inquiries to verify the truthfulness of the statements provided during the confession.
