British activist Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) has been convicted by London’s Southwark Crown Court of harassment. The jury found him guilty of two counts of harassment with threat of violence against two Daily Mail journalists. The case, reported by BBC News, stems from his reaction to articles from August 2024 that showed him on holiday in Cyprus during unrest in England.

The Daily Mail articles about Robinson in Cyprus provoked his reaction. He stated that he “panicked” over the story accusing him of “fuelling racial riots” and endangering his family; a claim rejected by the jury. He admitted wanting to “pressure” reporters Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber.

The prosecution proved that Robinson hired private investigators to find the reporters’ addresses. He published photos of their homes and family images online. During a phone call on August 5, 2024, he threatened Young, telling him: “I’m coming to get you,” in addition to spreading social media posts.

After the verdicts, Robinson was released on bail; sentencing is set for December 16. Frank Ferguson (Crown Prosecution Service) stated that Robinson “weaponized social media” for a “campaign of harassment” that caused “serious fear of violence.” Penalties can reach ten or fourteen years with aggravating factors.
