The judicial hearing for Erion Veliaj, mayor of Tirana, was postponed today. The reason, as reported by RTSH, is the absence of his lawyers, who continue their boycott against a new GJKKO regulation. This postponement highlights the ongoing procedural difficulties between the judicial system and the Albanian legal profession.

Not even the court-appointed lawyers appeared at the session, although requested by the court to guarantee the defense. The court, as specified by RTSH, nevertheless chose not to impose financial sanctions on the absent lawyers. This decision suggests an approach not to exacerbate the ongoing conflict with the lawyers.

Erion Veliaj stated that he wishes to be represented only by his trusted defender, Plarent Ndreca. The mayor expressed opposition to being assisted by other lawyers, reiterating his personal preference. This publicly communicated position reflects his will to maintain control over his representation in the proceedings.

The next hearing is scheduled for November 3. It is recalled that Erion Veliaj has been under the precautionary measure of “Arresto in carcere” (custodial arrest) since February 2025. The outcome of the case will be conditioned by future procedural decisions and the continuation of the lawyers' boycott.
