German company ARX Robotics and Ukrainian company ROBONEERS have announced the completion of the first major operational tests for an unmanned ground vehicle intended for the Ukrainian armed forces. As reported by Euronews, the agreement for this cooperation was formalized in early October during the official visit to Kyiv by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The integrated system utilizes the GEREON remotely operated platform, designed by the German company for mobility, transport, and optical reconnaissance tasks. Mounted atop this vehicle is the Ukrainian SABER weapon station, remotely controllable for offensive and defensive tactical support missions. This technology aims to enable military personnel to exercise operational control from protected positions, reducing direct exposure along the front line.
Unarmed versions of the GEREON platform are already operating in Ukrainian territory for logistical resupply, medical evacuation, electronic warfare, and counter-drone operations. The SABER module is customizable with various small arms or grenade launchers depending on requirements. The management of ARX Robotics emphasized the need for modular platforms capable of rapidly integrating with technologies in the field.
The two companies have also launched a joint venture to assemble another robotic model, the Rys Pro, in Germany and Ukraine, aiming for more than one thousand units in the first year. In parallel on the defense innovation front, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited the technology company Helsing in Munich.
