Florence: “Headphone Theater” Arrives in Suburbs with 22 Free Shows
Starting from October 30, the Florentine Autumn presents 22 free “headphone theater” events in Florence, conceived by the Teatro Mobile company. The shows, which will run until November 8 in five city districts, transform urban spaces into real stages, with spectators experiencing them by walking and listening to the performances on wireless headphones. The project, already tested in other Italian cities, stands out for its innovative and zero-impact approach.

RaiNews reports that the Florentine Autumn will bring twenty-two free “headphone theater” events to the suburbs of Florence. From October 30 to November 8, the festival, conceived by the Teatro Mobile company of Marcello Cava and Pina Catanzariti, will animate the five city districts with an innovative and accessible cultural offering.
The project is based on immersive listening theater using wireless headphones. Spectators follow the actors by walking and perceiving voices and sounds. Urban spaces, with their history, become protagonists. RaiNews highlights how this methodology has already been successfully adopted in Turin, Rome, Reggio Calabria, and Genoa.
The shows are born from collaborative workshops between local artists and Teatro Mobile. All events are zero-impact, an environmental commitment specified by RaiNews. Among the titles in the program, “Prometheus and his Double” at the Observatory juxtaposes Aeschylus and Mary Shelley on the relationship between man, nature, and science.
The program includes “In Zelda's Footsteps” (on Zelda Fitzgerald and Basaglia) and “But Not Love” (on fascist female internment). Additionally, “In Splendid Form - Scottish Variations,” which explores the forest as a place of fear and myth. The festival promises a unique theatrical experience, enhancing the Florentine suburbs.
