Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre had a “fruitful” phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ukrainska Pravda reported this, citing Stubb on X. The Nordic leaders discussed their recent contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place on Tuesday, October 27, at the initiative of Finland and Norway.
During the phone call, President Stubb reiterated Finland’s and Norway’s continued support for Ukraine. He also emphasized their joint commitment to finding a “just and lasting” peace. This stance underscores the willingness of the two Nordic countries to actively contribute to a resolution of the conflict.
These contacts are part of a broader diplomatic framework. On October 20, Zelenskyy, Støre, and Stubb had participated in talks in Oslo with US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Subsequently, Witkoff had met Putin in St. Petersburg.
On October 23, Zelenskyy had spoken with the US envoys, announcing a trilateral team-level meeting for the first half of November, aimed at ending the war. The Kremlin, through Ushakov, stated that Russia is ready to resume such talks with the USA and Ukraine after November 4.
