The Rome Court of Assizes has imposed life imprisonment on Mark Antony Samson for the murder of Ilaria Sula, the 22-year-old Albanian and former girlfriend. In March 2025, the young woman was stabbed to death and her body, in a sack, was thrown from a cliff. Samson, despite confessing, was convicted of murder aggravated by premeditation and concealment of a corpse.

During the last hearing in Rebibbia, prosecutor Maria Perna denied it was a “crime of passion”, emphasizing Samson's premeditation and lack of remorse, as he believed that Ilaria Sula deserved that end. The prosecution highlighted the defendant's attempts to evade full responsibility, lying to conceal the premeditated nature of the crime.

After the sentence, Flamur Sula, the victim's father, expressed his deep sorrow: “The real life sentence is for us, for me and my wife. He still breathes, my daughter does not”. He reiterated his trust in the judicial system, while emphasizing the irreparable personal loss caused by the murder.

The student's murder generated widespread solidarity, especially at Sapienza University of Rome, where Ilaria studied. The university, a civil party in the trial, supported the Sula family with a letter from students. The message, as reported by RTSH, remembered Ilaria as a “wonderful, kind, joyful, and diligent student”.
