The Albanian President Bajram Begaj has initiated consultations to set the date for the 2027 local elections. The head of the Socialist Party (PS) parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, confirmed his party's participation, as reported by RTSH. Balla defined these consultations as a constitutional practice, criticizing the Democratic Party's (PD) stance.

The local elections, Balla indicated, are scheduled between April 15 and May 15, 2027. The PS reaffirmed its presence at the meetings with the head of state. The socialist representative defended the presidential initiative as a tradition, highlighting the parties' involvement in setting the date.

The head of the Democratic Party (PD) parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, on the other hand, rejected the presidential invitation. Bardhi called the entire process a “political theater,” accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of having predetermined the date of the administrative elections. For the PD, the consultations are devoid of political value.

Bardhi declared Begaj's invitation “irrelevant,” expressing disdain. He accused the President of not exercising his constitutional role, serving the government instead. The opposition, according to RTSH, is demanding guarantees for free and fair elections, urging the President to address these priorities.
